Description

the icon is developed in two distances. Portrayed in the middle of the lower half are the Holy Mother of God, Joseph the Righteous One and the Infant lying in the manger. On the left side of the scene are the Magi, and on the right side are the group of the shepherds. There is in the upper half of the icon one more group of shepherds, and painted in the center are three angels, the one in their middle being the biggest in size, holding in his hands an undulating roll with a text in the Greek language. Painted on the left- and on the right-hand side are landscapes with trees. The theme is treated in the spirit of the Western European painting.

Iconographical technique: Oil

Oil on pasteboard, the latter having been pasted and attached with nails onto a wooden base.

Base material: Wood

State, restoration traces and comments

Traces have been found of a previous restoration and conservation. Discernible after the cleansing of the badly spoiled varnish have become later made pastings and retouchings on the body of the Infant and on the right hand of the Holy Mother of God. The donor's inscription is in the icon's lower left corner.
