Description

A traditional iconographic composition, treating the theme. Portrayed in the lower part of the pictorial field is the Holy Mother of God on a death-bed. Standing at her head, with a candle and a censer in his hands, is Saint Peter the Apostle, and, at her feet, is Saint Paul the Apostle. Painted behind them, according to the principle of the isocepahly, are the other apostles. Painted clearly are the figures of James, the brother of the Lord, and of Hierotheus, who are holding open books in their hands. Painted in the center, above the Mother of God and standing on clouds, against an orange-and-red background, is Jesus Christ with the little figure of her soul. Around him, with their arms crossed on their chests, are two angels, who are bowing to him.

Iconographical technique: Tempera

With velaturas. The varnish cover is applied thinly and unevenly. The gilding on the aureoles and on the background around Christ is with gold-leaf.

Base material: Wood

The icon's base is a one-piece softwood panel. The ground coat is of a thin and even layer of plaster.
