Description

A traditional iconographic treatment of the theme. The two Bulgarian sainted enlighteners are portrayed in full length, dressed in archieratical vestments. In his left hand Saint Methodius holds an open book, written in which is: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God", and in his right hand - an archieratical staff. The text on the unfolded roll in Saint Cyril's left hand reads: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom", and with his right hand he is blessing with a cross.

Iconographical technique: Tempera

With velaturas along the archieratical vestments and on the attributes. The varnish cover is applied thinly and evenly. The gilding on the aureoles and on the enclosing frame is with gold-leaf.

Base material: Wood

The icon's base is a one-piece softwood panel, with two inserted beams. The ground coat is of a thinly and evenly laid layer of plaster.

State, restoration traces and comments

There are traces of previous interventions in some places of the saints' vestments and of the frame, enclosing the icon. With a view to the latter's better preservation, it is placed in a glass frame.
