Description

There is on the entire surface of the two wings a complicated interlacing of decorative elements with a floral motif (a great number of full blown flowerets), interwoven with figures of the animal world: eaglets, little doves, dragons, etc. Painted in the middle belt of the gates, in specially made medallions, are the images of the prophet David and of Saint Archangel Gabriel and of the Holy Mother of God and of King Solomon. Portrayed in the lower part of the gates, in full length, are the figures of the liturgists Saint John Chrysostom, Saint Basil the Great, Saint Gregory the Theologian and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker.

Iconographical technique: Carving

A deep openwork woodcut with gilding over the entire surface. The woodcarving is absolutely symmetrical on the two wings of the gates. The varnish cover is applied thickly and unevenly and has in some places grown dark.

Base material: Wood
