An icon of similar size and style, Christ Pantocrator, bears the date 1775, which may also refer to this Virgin Hodegetreia.

Description

A traditional waist-high depiction of the Virgin Hodegetreia, performed with a newer aesthetic ideal of beauty adopted in the 19th century. Many icons in the Rila, Zograph and Hilendar monasteries have been executed in this manner.
