Description
An unconventional iconographic approach to the theme. The twelve symbols of the Faith are developed in twelve separate iconographic scenes, located in separate medallions divided by decorative friezes of floral motifs.
Iconographical technique: Combined
tempera with oil mounts.the modeling is made with the "Probaster" technique and velatures. The wet-on-wet method is used for the carnation in the body parts. The lacquering is thick and uniform. The gilding is made of sheet gold.
Base material: Wood
Three softwood (fir) boards.
Three keys inserted in grooves cut into the back of each panel. Plaster ground applied in a thin and uniform layer.
State, restoration traces and comments
No prior restoration has been detected. The graphic image, the colouring and the manner reveal the hand of an experienced artist. In the lower right corner the year of creation, 1860, is written.
