This monumental work is a fine example of Bulgarian post-Byzantine period art to whose mediaeval traditions, new tendencies and creative opportunities that were typical of the Balkan area were added.
Double-sided processional icon. This is golden background on this side and red frame, waist-high depiction in the conventional iconography.
Description
Christ Pantocrator wears a brown chiton and dark-blue himation; he blesses with his right hand; he holds an open gospel in his left hand. Figures of two angels in blue-white chitons and ochre brown himations are depicted on either side of his head, at shoulder height.
