Description

A traditional iconographic treatment of this theme. In the center of the pictorial field is Christ, riding a donkey. Behind him, on the left-hand side, are his disciples, painted according to the principle of the isocephaly. On the right-hand side at the gates of the city, are the high priests and others of the welcoming party. Painted in the center of the icon's field is tall sycamore tree, seated up into which is the short Zacchaeus who is cutting twigs for the welcomers. Children are spreading their clothes on the road in front of Jesus.
