Description

A traditional composition with a down-to-the waist portrait of the great martyr, with the typical of that iconographic treatment attributes, garments and inscriptions.

Iconographical technique: Tempera

With a gilding over the saint's aureole.

Base material: Wood

The icon's base is a one-piece softwood panel with two reinforcing beams. The ground coat is of plaster, laid thinly missing in the icon's lower end, where the linkage between it and the layer of paintings had been broken.

State, restoration traces and comments

The layer of the painting is with partial damages, along with the ground coat, in the area of the garment, of the aureole ant the frame. There are traces also of mechanical damages in the icon's lower end. There are damages all over the width of the icon's base, about 3-4 cm. The icon had been subject to restorative interventions. The varnish cover had been removed in parts some time ago. There are drops and deposits of wax. Remnants of the original varnish had been found under them.
