Description

The iconography is the traditional one for treating this subject. In the center of the composition is the image of the Holy Mother of God, holding Christ with her right arm. The background is a three-dimensional one, with symmetrically painted cloudlets on a blue sky.

Iconographical technique: Combined

The overlays are of distemper, the brightenings are done with a semi-oily vehicle. The engraving of the aureole and of the two medallions is with velaturas and is executed by means of the "probaster" technique. The painting layer is applied evenly and the painting betrays the hand of a master, using well the different techniques of painting. The varnish coating is applied evenly in a rather thick layer. The gilding is made with gold-leaf, overlaid on bole.

Base material: Wood

The base is a softwood panel, with two inserted beams. The ground coat is of plaster, thick, laid several times.
