Description

A traditional iconographic composition on the theme. Christ, surrounded by his disciples, is in the center of the pictorial field. In front of him is Thomas with the finger of his right hand pointing at the wound of Christ. The background is of buildings with markedly Baroque elements.

Iconographical technique: Combined

With "probaster" on the garments. The "wet into wet" method has also been used in the carnations. The varnish cover is applied thinly and evenly. The gildings on the aureoles, on the roofs of the temples, on the door in the arch behind Christ and along the enclosing frame are with gold-leaf.

Base material: Wood

The icon's base is a one-piece softwood panel with two inserted beams. The ground coat is of plaster, laid in a thin layer.

State, restoration traces and comments

There are damages on the blue background behind the Baroque buildings and along the enclosing frame, and there are also retouchings in some places. A part of the varnish cover has been removed, and there are traces of restorative interventions on the faces of the disciples.
